Vertical Flow reedbeds produce the following levels:
Ammonia: less than 5mg/L typically it can be less than 3mg/L
Nitrates: less than 10mg/L typically it can be less than 3mg/L
Phosphates: less than 10mg/L typically it can be less than 5mg/L
Suspended Solids: less than 10mg/L
BOD: Less than 10mg/L
Flows need to be a little and often and NOT everything all at once !
My vertical flow reedbeds have been tested in the mountains of Czech Republic.
3000 feet above sea level, and at -30C. They continued to flow. Pollutant reduction was down to 75%. But I don’t work at -30.
Reedbeds use the same principles as sewage works or treatment tank systems. So what would affect one system, would affect all systems equally.
I could ask how well sewage works operate at -30C.
A household vertical flow reedbed only needs to be 10m2 ( 5m x 2m). I would add on a further 10m2 as living soakaways, to complete as directed by the Environment Agency.
My vertical flow reedbeds meet the standards found in GBG42 ( 1996 and 2000 ).
The H2000 drainage standards.
The Environment Agency has approved.
No system works better than my vertical flow reedbeds. Few work as well, and none at my prices.
